Sheriff Daniel E. Abbott reports that on 08/07/2025 at approximately 7:30 p.m. a Deputy on patrol in Columbia township attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a pickup truck for multiple traffic violations. The driver of the vehicle failed to stop and a pursuit was initiated. The pursuit lasted approximately 4 miles with the suspect vehicle speeds reaching 90 mph. During the pursuit the suspect attempted to get the contents of the bed of the truck to spill in front of the Deputy by making abrupt turns, heavy braking, and hard acceleration. The suspect vehicle eventually went off road through a blueberry field and the Deputy lost sight of it. The vehicle was located at a nearby residence a short time later and the suspect, a 27 year old Grand Junction man, was taken into custody without incident. He was lodged at the Van Buren County Jail for fleeing and eluding and an outstanding warrant from another county.
