On Wednesday March 12, 2025, at 9:21 p.m., a Deputy with the Clare County Sheriff Office was conducting a traffic stop on Cedar Rd near Plum St in the township of Lincoln. While on this stop, the Deputy’s patrol car, was struck from behind by a white in color 2017 Toyota Tundra, driven by 57-year-old Harrison resident James George Corwin. The patrol car had been stopped on the shoulder of the road with the emergency lights activated. The Deputy was in the patrol car at the time the vehicle was struck.
When the Deputy made contact with Corwin, he was hostile and was threatening to fight with the Deputy. At the time of the crash, Corwin had a strong odor of intoxicants coming from his person, he mumbled and slurred his words and appeared to sway back and forth while standing. When other Deputies arrived on scene, they attempted to have Corwin perform field sobriety exercises, however he refused. The arresting Deputy transported Corwin to the Clare Er where a search warrant was completed to obtain his blood for further testing. During the transport to the emergency room, Corwin began to kick the passenger window and partition of the patrol vehicle. Upon completion of the blood draw, Corwin was transported to the Clare County Jail.
