HAMILTON—After suffering a pair of losses to Spring Lake the previous day, the Hamilton baseball team hosted Spring Lake for a single game on Friday, March 28.
And it appeared as though the Hawkeyes would drop a third-straight game to the Lakers, as Hamilton fell behind 7-0.
But appearances can be deceiving, as Hamilton rallied to claim the 10-9 win in walk-off fashion.
The game was tied at 9-9 in the bottom of the seventh when Landon VanderSwaag doubled to score Keegan Springer with the winning run.
VanderZwaag finished 3-for-5, while Clay Blauwkamp was 3-for-4 with three RBI. Breslin Nykamp and Brett VanderKooi each collected two hits and had multiple RBI.
Owen Brown started the game on the mound and after a rough first two innings pitched three consecutive scoreless frames. Mark Brower and James Hoffman combined to pitch the last two innings, with Hoffman credited with the win.
On Wednesday, March 26, Hamilton beat Saugatuck 6-1 and 3-0 in a doubleheader.
Carter Basinski struck out 12 and allowed just one hit in the opening game, while Dakota Breuker struck out five and allowed a hit in game two.
