In observance of Memorial Day, Clare County is all about making sure our veterans have the recognition they deserve. There is a lot taking place in the next couple days so let’s unpack what you can expect..
Harrison
If you’re local to the Harrison area, you probably already know that the Veteran’s Free-dom Park is the place to be Monday morning.
At 11 AM, there will be a ceremony taking place in honor of our veterans. It will open with a welcoming address and the Posting of the Colors, followed by the National Anthem.
Speakers will then take center stage, consisting of Allisha Gary, a County Veterans Ser-vice Officer; Joe Prato, Commander, American Legion Post 404; Scott Taylor, Commander, VFW Post 1075 and Isha Walter, a USAF Veteran.
Renee Haley, who spearheaded the Freedom Park and helped coordinate the park’s statues, will also deliver an address, as well as Maye Rood who handled its fundraising.
The ceremony will conclude with the Placing of the Wreaths and the Retirement of the Colors, but as a special addition this year, there will also be a statue unveiling. Local artist Jeff Best has contributed a special pair of constructs that are sure to awe the community.
A lunch will follow at American Legion Post 404
Clare
The Clare Memorial Day Parade is scheduled to commence on May 26, 2025. The parade will begin at 10:30 AM. The route will run from Clare City Hall to Cherry Grove Cemetery. Upon arrival at Cherry Grove Cemetery, a ceremony honoring those who lost their lives will take place. City offices will also be closed on Memorial Day.
Farwell
Meanwhile in Farwell, the VFW will be engaged in similar vibrations with a ceremony, along with events at the park and fairground.
Some of the events include the TNT Bump ‘N Run and Figure 8 racing, which will go from 7 PM to 10 PM. It is $50 to enter a car and $20 for pit passes for all ages. Keep in mind, all cars need to be entered 1 hour prior to showtime.
There will also be a photo opp for kids, who will get a chance to paint and decorate a derby car, which will then be raced. Music, food and games will be plenty so be sure to bring the whole family.
