High Winds knock down Carnegie Center Christmas Tree

Following a late Thursday night and early Friday morning storm that knocked out power to many Van Buren County residents, the Paw Paw Community Christmas Tree that had been a fixture at the Carnegie Center, located on Kalamazoo Street, fell victim to rain and high winds reported at 70 to 75 mph, during the storm.

Rain and high winds wreaked havoc throughout Van Buren County late Thursday night
and early Friday morning, May 15 and 16, causing power outages that continued for more
than four days to some areas. Van Buren County Road Commission workers, area village
and city department of public workers, fire departments, first responders, area police departments, and area residents were kept busy removing fallen trees and tree limbs from roadways and yards. Several businesses in downtown Paw Paw were closed until Sunday morning due to power outages.
