Van Buren County Sheriff Daniel Abbott said that on Nov. 3, at approximately 9:35 a.m., a passerby called in to Van Buren County Central Dispatch regarding what appeared to be an injured bald eagle near the intersection of County Road 681 and 72nd Avenue in Hamiliton Township. Sheriff’s deputies responded to the location and found what appeared to be an injured adolescent bald eagle laying in the ditch. After speaking with area residents, it was determined that the eagle had been there for a couple of days. Deputies on scene contacted the Michigan Department of Natural Resources for assistance. The DNR officer confirmed that the bird was an adolescent bald eagle. The bird was safely captured without further injury and turned over to the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, who plan on taking it to a rescue/rehabilitation center.
