Jipp takes circuit court bench

ALLEGAN — In a ‘robing” ceremony earlier this month, Emily Jipp
was presented with the black robe symbolic of the authority of a circuit court judge. Jipp was elected last November to become the county’s third circuit court judge, joining incumbent circuit judges Matthew Antkoviak and Marge Bakker. Jipp is the first person to preside in the third circuit court judge position. Bakker and former chief circuit court judge Roberts Kengis, working with the Board of Commissioners and legislators representing the county in Lansing, successfully petitioned the state court administrative office, Legislature, and Governor to create the third judgeship for the 48 th Circuit Court to relieve the growing backlog in the court.
Prior to her judicial election, Jipp served as a Van Buren and Allegan County assistant prosecuting attorney.
