Lake’s Winterfest offers variety of events on February 28

Winterfest will take place on Saturday Feb. 28th starting with an ice fishing contest on Perch Lake as well as Crooked Lake…registration begins at 6:30am. @ the Crooked Lake Resort or the Depot.  You can pick up bait at the Crooked Lake Resort bait shop and register for the fishing contest.  While there, put in your best guess for the giant ice melt date. 
There are many events to join in on such as the refreshing Polar Dip, Cornhole tournament, a scavenger hunt, tug of war, goat snuggling, a chili cook-off, a HOT WING challenge, curling, frozen turkey bowling and much more!
The events will be spread out this year.  Some will take place on the ice in front of the Crooked Lake Resort such as the Polar dip and tug of war.  Inside the Depot is where you will purchase tickets for the various games and register, pick up scavenger hunt information, as well as purchase raffle tickets and get in on the silent auction.  Just outside the Depot will feature the cornhole tournament, cake walk, turkey bowling and curling as well as kids’ putt- putt golf.  At the Garfield Township Hall there will be goat snuggling, a chili cook off, face painting, Vanessa Kay’s Breads and Sweets, and a coloring contest.  
There will be 2 bonfires.  One at the Crooked Lake Resort and another across from the Lakeside Bar & Grill in town.
An after-party with a DJ will take place at the Lakeside Bar & Grill in Lake.
The funds raised by this year’s event will be earmarked for equipping the GTFD tender truck with a 36’ ladder system and the purchase of a new nozzle.
Throughout the summer the Garfield Township Fire Department hosts car washes as part of their fundraising efforts.  The funds raised go towards various things such as the scholarship program, the purchase of equipment, community events such as parades and the annual Christmas party for the community as well as training for the crew, etc.
Chief Kevin Tubbs recently reported that the department responded to 338 calls last year and over 64 calls so far this year.
