Lanett hosts Juneteenth celebration

A Juneteenth celebration was hosted on Saturday in downtown Lanett. The day started out with presentation of the flag, welcome, prayer, and greetings from surrounding areas mayors, Lanett Mayor Jaime Heard, West Point Mayor Steve Tramell, LaFayette Mayor Kenneth Vines.
The Emancipation Proclamation was read and horse riders performed.
There was a special presentation called Lamb Bearers for the Greater Valley Area. This special presentation honored 11 women and two men that lived to be at least 96 years of age.The oldest two Mary Sledge and Lula Roberts both are 107 years of age.
The day was filled with live performances and entertainment, food, games, vendors, farmer’s market, craft, and face painting.
