Lawrence high jumper has strong year

LAWRENCE — Lawrence senior Dillon Simpson ended his Lawrence track and field career in impressive fashion.
Simpson came into the season as a high jumper, sprinter and discus thrower, hurdler and sprinter, and especially had success in the high jump. He started out with a fourth place in the 52nd Watervliet Relays at 5 feet, 6 inches and then got his personal record of 6-0 for first place at the Southwest 10 Bangor meet. He was second at 5-9 in the River Valley Mustang Invitational.
At the Southwest 10 Centreville meet, he was at 5-8 for first place. He was 5-10 for third place at the Southwest 10 Cassopolis meet. Simpson cleared 5-11 in the Gobles Invitational for third place and was second in the regional meet at New Buffalo at 6 feet.
This put him in the state finals at Hudsonville and he was 10th at 5-10.
The discus was also a good event for Simpson. He had a personal record of 118-4 in the Southwest 10 Cassopolis meet for first place. He had a throw of 113-1 at the 52nd Watervliet Relay for fifth place and a throw of 98-9 for fifth place at the Southwest Bangor meet. He was sixth at the Gobles Invitational at 110-10.
