Lawrence Public Schools announces new superintendent

Williamson succeeds Gretchen Gendron, who is retiring after 30 years of dedicated service to the district.

LAWRENCE -The Lawrence Public Schools Board of Education has announced the appointment of Ryan Williamson as the new superintendent of schools, effective Aug. 1, 2024.
Williamson brings a wealth of experience and a proven track record of educational leadership to the new role. With over 25 years in the field of education, Williamson has served in various capacities, most recently serving as principal of South Haven High School, demonstrating a strong commitment to student achievement, staff development, and community engagement, according to a press release from the school district.
“We are thrilled to welcome Ryan Williamson to our district,” said Deb Salvano, president of the Lawrence Public Schools Board of Education. “After a thorough and comprehensive search process, we are confident that Ryan is the right leader to guide our district forward. He possesses the vision, expertise, and dedication needed to ensure the continued success and growth of our schools and students.”
Williamson holds a Master’s Degree from Western Governor’s University in Utah and a Central Office Endorsement via the MASA Horizons Program. Throughout his career, he has been dedicated to fostering an inclusive and equitable learning environment, implementing innovative educational programs, and building strong partnerships with parents, staff, and the community.
“I am honored to join the Lawrence Public Schools and serve as superintendent of schools,” said Williamson. “I look forward to working collaboratively with the Board of Education, staff, students,and the community to build on the district’s successes and address the challenges ahead. Together, we will strive to provide an exceptional educational experience for all students and prepare them for future success.”
As superintendent, Williamson will provide oversight of all aspects of the district’s operations, including academic programs, staff development, budget management, and community relations. He will work closely with the Board of Education and district stakeholders to ensure that Lawrence continues to deliver high-quality education and meet the needs of its diverse student population, according to the press release.
