A man accused in a stabbing earlier this month has been taken into custody and arraigned, according to the Allegan County Sheriff’s Office.
Anthony Steven Vincent, 43, was arrested on Monday by the Michigan State Police Fugitive Team. He was arraigned on an assault with intent to murder charge on Tuesday.
Vincent was wanted in connection to an incident that happened on Tuesday, Oct. 1 in Lee Township, where deputies said there was some sort of fight.
The incident happened at 5535 105th Avenue in Lee Township
Deputies responded after 26-year-old Kyle McCaig from the Lee Township area showed up at a South Haven hospital with multiple stab wounds.
A short time later, law enforcement said 29-year-old Justin Payne arrived at the hospital with a gunshot wound.
Detectives believe both men had been at the same home when the fight happened.
As a vehicle was taking McCaig to the hospital, a passenger in that car shot Payne outside of the vehicle, detectives said.
The shooting suspect turned himself in.
The stabbing suspect, Vincent, fled from the police. He is now facing charges in connection to the stabbing of McCaig.
According to probable cause documents for the case, in a follow-up interview with police, Maryjane Kiraly, a witness who was at the scene, said she saw Vincent kneeling on McCaig and stabbing him in the chest before running off.
The documents stated the witness helped police identify Vincent by showing them his Facebook page.
In the documents, police said they spoke to McCaig at the hospital. He told them he had gone to visit a friend named “RJ” and Lisa Pendergrass at her house, where the incident occurred.
Police spoke with Pendergrass, who confirmed to them that Vincent was there when the incident happened and that he lives there.
McCaig said when he walked outside from Pendergrass’s house, he spoke briefly with Payne. Then, they walked away from each other and McCaig began to walk towards another cabin on the property.
McCaig said he was attacked by someone wearing all black, who stabbed him in the chest and said “I’m going to kill you.”
According to McCaig, he doesn’t know who would have done this, but they robbed him of the $500 cash he had in his pocket.
McCaig told police a few weeks prior to this incident, he had a confrontation with Vincent.
McCaig said Vincent took a knife to his throat and threatened to kill him because Vincent thought he was assaulting his fiance, Nina Denemy.
Oh my gosh this is just horrible. I can believe this all happened . I hope that never happens to any one close too me . I guess we will let justice prevail.
