MARION – Marion softball coach Ryan Raymond is coaching a Michigan Expos summer team which was in action last weekend in a Traverse City tournament.
Raymond’s team includes his daughter Malley Raymond and seven girls from Evart plus Zoe Taylor from Big Rapids and Paityn Enos and Hayden Cutler from Reed City.
The Expos played one game, and won 7-0 against Phantom Fastpitch 18U (Macomb Co.). Kyrah Gray pitched a no-hitter. We were then rained out for the rest of the tournament and our age division was cancelled.
This weekend, the team is in the Firestix tournament in Grand Blanc.
“That’s a college exposure tournament,” Raymond said. “That’s pretty much the toughest tournament in the state of Michigan you’re going to find throughout the year. I’ve been doing this since my oldest was in eighth grade and she’s a junior in college now.
“It’s been for seven to eight years and I’ve played or coached in plenty of tournaments of college exposure in Michigan. Then we go to the USSSA because we won the qualifier to the nationals last year in Evansville, in later July. Then we played Battle Creek, also in later July.”
