Lockhart honored at Sheriff’s Rodeo

The 26th annual Chambers County Sherriff Rodeo was held this past weekend in LaFayette and a large crowd showed up for the event. Participants in the rodeo came as far as New York to participate.

Sherriff Sid Lockhart along with his wife sat in the announcer booth for his last time as Sheriff. Between events Lockhart was honored Saturday night for his years of service. Also, the Jason Fuller memorial riders present the Tallapoosa County Sheriffs Girls ranch with a check in honor of the eight young girls that were lost due to a tragic car accident. The rodeo crowd stood and applauded when the amount of $33,312.82 was announced. The speaker for the riders said this is the sort of thing that Jason Fuller would have organized himself, and they will continue do these sort of fund raisers in his honor and memory.
Retiring Sheriff Sid Lockhart said “The Rodeo was a large success this year. It was the American small-town dream which included opening each night with a single rider carrying an American flag in front of a patriotic standing crowd and we finished with the always exciting and crowd-pleasing Bull Riding. I am proud of our community and everything we stand for. I enjoyed the weekend and I believe everyone who attended did as well,”
