BLOOMINGDALE TWP. A 49-year-old Gobles/Bloomingdale area man faces a charge of assault with intent to murder, following a domestic violence incident with his wife, according to a press release from the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office.
Van Buren County Sheriff Daniel Abbott reported that during the early morning hours on Sept. 15, Van Buren County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the 36000 block of 24th Avenue for a domestic violence call. Central Dispatch advised that a domestic violence call was in progress at approximately 12:49 a.m., where the suspect was trying to stab his wife with knives and was assaulting her. Sheriff Abbott said the victim was able to get away and hid in a shed on the property until deputies arrived on scene.
During the investigation it was found that the 49-year-old male suspect had allegedly attempted to kill his wife with two kitchen knives, and allegedly physically assaulted her by slamming her up against the wall inside the residence. The female was able to escape the initial assault inside the home and retreated outside. Once outside the home, the suspect continued to assault his wife. The suspect knocked her to the ground, placed his knees on her chest and began to choke her to the point of unconsciousness.
Once deputies arrived, the suspect was placed into custody at taser point for non-compliance and was transported to the Van Buren County Jail, where he faces a charge of assault with intent to murder.
The incident remains under investigation. The victim was transported to the hospital for medical treatment. Sheriff Abbott said alcohol is believed to have been a factor in the incident.
