Man in serious condition after driving off bridge

ALLEGAN – The Allegan County Central Dispatch got a call on Saturday for a vehicle that had driven off of a bridge on Bridge Rd near Primrose Pl in Trowbridge Township.
Allegan County Sheriff’s Deputies said they arrived on the scene and discovered a single SUV on the river bank. The vehicle was occupied by a single driver occupant who was found to be unconscious.
Deputies said the driver was transported to Bronson Hospital for treatment and listed in serious condition.
Preliminary investigation by the sheriff department indicates the vehicle was south on Bridge Rd and struck the guard rail alongside the bridge and then went along the guard rail, over the bridge, and onto an embankment. Rescue personnel extricated the driver for treatment. The crash is still under investigation by the Allegan County Sheriff’s Office at this time. Speed and alcohol were possible contributing factors, deputies said.
Bridge Road between Primrose and 110th Ave, Trowbridge Twp, were closed until repairs could be made to the bridge.
The Allegan Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Gobles Pine Grove FD, LIFE EMS, Allegan Central Dispatch, and the Allegan County Road Commission.
