MARION – It was another championship seaosn for the Marion baseball team with some excellent players.
The Eagles, coached by Chad Roy, won both West Michigan D League and district titles. The West Michigan D all-conference team was led by the Eagles.
He team included seniors Gavin Prielipp and Tucker Sigafoose, junior Cole Meyer and sophomore Colin McCrimmon for the first team.
On the second team are senior Aaron Whitney and Cayden McCrimmon.
Honors also came to the Eagles during the postseason. Prielipp, McCrimmon, Meyer and Sigafoose were all-district and Prielipp and Sigafoose were also all-region.
“We just played really well today,” Marion coach Chad Grundy said after a 2-0 run in the district tourney. “The first game their team had a really good pitcher. We got to him early and went right in through to the second game.”
Marion improved to 27-6 with its second straight district title.
Going into Wednesday’s regional semifinal game with Glen Lake, Grundy said his team couldn’t afford to make defensive mistakes. Marion committed no errors but lost 15-0 and was out-hit 12-2. Glen Lake had five runs in the first, eight in the second and two in the third.
