MATTAWAN — Rob Kuhtz’s girls basketball team is off to a 2-2 start as Mattawan gets ready to come out of the holiday break.
“We are much improved from a year ago and we’ve had opportunities to win all four games,” Kuhtz said. “Obviously rosters change with graduation, but winning two games against teams that beat us by 30-plus last year has been a confidence booster. All nine girls are contributing in big ways to help us experience the success we’ve had.”
Kuhtz said Mattawan needs to improve on “Continuing to grow in finishing close games and being consistent throughout games. We need to learn to value every possession.”
Stat leaders so far for Mattawan are: Charlotte Douglass (10th), 16 ppg, 10 rebounds/game (broke her thumb in second game of the year, will return in January. Caitlin Ryan (11th), 11ppg, 5 reb/game, 6
steals/game. Savannah Waterlander (12th) 7ppg.Annemaire Pelak (10th), 6ppg, 6 reb/game
“We need to continue to improve, have fun, and take advantage of every opportunity we have to grow
as players and people,” Kuhtz said, adding that key will be “understanding that we don’t have to be all-
stars, we just need everyone to star in their particular role.”
