MATTAWAN — Mattawan’s hockey team entered this week with a record of 16-3-1 overall and was tied for first place in the South Central High School League with a 4-0-1 record.
Kalamazoo Loy Norrix is in second place in the league at 5-1-1 and 14-6-1 Portage Northern is third at 3-3-0 and 10-9-0. Okemos is fourth at 3-3-0 and 7-11-1. DeWitt is fifth at 0-2 and 12-8-0 and Richland Gull Lake is 0-6-0 and 1-17-0.
“We just had the league skills competition, this Saturday is Hockey fights for kids with Autism – 14th annual event,” hockey spokesman Jon Stork said. “Mattawan plays Jenison, next Wednesday is in the Renberger Cup vs. Portage, then we are in a large Showcase in Trenton that is by Invite where we play Super 10 ranked teams.”
The game with Jenison was on Jan. 24 and Mattawan took a 4-0 win.
This Saturday Mattawan plays the Kalamazoo Portage team in the Wings Event Center at 7:30 p.m.
