Mattawan teams stay busy

MATTAWAN – Mattawan’s boys cross country team was 36th in its division at the Portage Invitational on Saturday.
For Mattawan, Owen Fisher was 74th (16:43.5), and Michael Stork got 126th (17:20.5);
For the girls, who were 48th, Kate Barron was 187th (21:50).

Golf
Mattawan was set to play in the Division 2 reigonal meet on Tuesday Oct. 8 at Bedford Valley.
The team played at Bedford Valley in a regional preview recently and finished sixth. Scoring for Mattawan were Charlotte Senger (78), Olivia Rudnick (99), Lorna Booy (96)and Eden Tewkesbury (119).
Mattawan played in the SMAC jamboree on Oct. 2 at Kalamazoo Country Club and took seventh place at 200. Portage Central won it at 175, followed by Gull Lake 180, St Joseph 182, Battle Creek Lakeview 194, Stevensvillle Lakeshore 194 Portage Northern 198 and Mattawan 200.
Scorers for Mattawan were Charlotte Stenger (36), Lorna Booy (51), Olivia Rudnick (54_ and Eden Tewekesbury 59.

Football
Mattawan’s football team enjoyed a 42-7 win over Stevensville Lakeshore on Friday. Mattawan will play at home with St. Joseph on Oct. 11 and at home with Kalamazoo Central. Mattawan is 3-3 overall and 1-2 in the league.
