What is retirement going to look like? Some say that it is going to be great. Just think, you can sleep in and stay up late. You can do whatever you want, eat whatever you and whenever. No worries! Watch all the TV you like. I don’t want my retirement to be helter-skelter, so I am doing some planning. I am asking myself how I want to live my retirement years. I want some things to be scheduled, by not cut in stone.
For example, I want to get eight or nine hours of sleep, so getting to bed about 10:30 pm and getting up about 7:00 am should be good. I would also like to plan some time for prayer, reading and exercise. Spending a couple of hours on chores would be ok. I am especially looking forward to spending time with Mary Jo without having to work around working hours.
We ought to be able to take a few days off on occasion to visit family and friends and maybe just be together without scheduled responsibilities. I plan to continue enjoying my family and church community and participate as much as reasonably possible. I hope to continue writing this article.
I like cantering, lecturing, being a Eucharistic Minister, a Knight, and helping out where I can. I want to be careful that I don’t take on too much as I have a hard time saying no when asked. I can’t help it if I like helping out. What I don’t want to do is to impose or intrude. I am good at just being a part of what’s going on.
Someone once said that we mortals make plans and God smiles, because he has other plans. “Eye has not seen, and ear has not heard what God has in store for those who love him.”
Whatever the future may bring, Jesus will be with me. I am assured that retirement, whatever it brings, will eventually result in living with Jesus and my loved ones for eternity. Who could ask for more?
“May the Lord bless and keep you. May he let his face shine upon you, be gracious to you and give you his peace.”
