May I Walk with You? Why Worship

Ever been asked why someone might worship God? Why would anyone want to worship Jesus? St. Paul in his letter to the Colossians (Colossians 1:12-20) offers some reasons. Here goes. God created the universe, everything visible and invisible. His son Jesus, existed from all eternity and all things were made by him, for him, and are held together by him. The second person of the Trinity became a human man. Because of his love for us, Jesus shed his blood on the cross, dying a horrible death, to conquer sin and death. Jesus gave us a Church to give us the truth about how to live a happy, holy life. God gave us the Bible to guide us in holiness.
As if that were not enough, just look at any sunset or sunrise. Not only did he create the universe, but he also made it beautiful. Not only did he do it for everybody, but he did also it personally for me. I am so grateful for all that he has done for me. All that I have was given to me by him. All that I need is given to me by him. He provides for all of my physical needs as well as my spiritual and emotional needs. He is the Lord of my past, present and future and I need not fear or be anxious.
God is greatest and I am the smallest. Jesus is the Lord and Center of my life as well as being my Savior. In him we all move, live and have our being, including me. Yet, we are all invited to be united with him for eternity, which is a long time. He loves us and we love him. He knows me better than I know myself, yet I hardly know him. I was created to conform my life to his teaching, not make the Bible and Church teaching conform to my thoughts and actions.
So we pray, “Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. Amen.”
Simply put, I worship God because he loves me and I love him. I think that is as good as it gets. Why do you worship God?
“May the Lord bless and keep you. May he let his face shine upon you be gracious to you and give you his peace.”
