MCBAIN – McBain Northern Michigan boys soccer coach Taylor Mulder reports he’s had drop-ins three times a week for his players.
Drop-ins “are when kids show up and we play, scrimmage depending on how many show up.” Mulder said. “It’s just show up and play.”
The drop-ins are at the high school field.
The turnouts “have not been the greatest,” Mulder said, adding that the drop-ins have been conducted every year. We started the middle of June and we’ll end the last week of July and the first couple of days of August. That’s when we’ll end.”
Official practices will start on Aug. 12.
“We will have a scrimmage on that Wednesday,” Mulder said. “Our first game will be that Friday. That will be our home tournament, the Comet Cup.”
The quality of play at the tournament depends on the players, Mulder said.
“The older kids who have played a couple of years, they come out strong,” Mulder said. “Especially freshmen, it’s quite the change from middle school for them. The agenda (for drop-in sessions) is to get in as many as we can and have fun. It’s show up, be the adult and watch them play.”
A small number of girls show up, he added.
