LAWTON – The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) held an open house Wednesday, Aug. 10, at the Lawton Village Hall to discuss a planned three-year project to rebuild M-40 from 72nd Avenue to LaGrave Street through the Village of Lawton.
Proposed work includes repaving and rebuilding M-40, shoulder widening, intersection and drainage improvements, village infrastructure improvements, and tree planting.
MDOT plans to rebuild or repave M-40 from 72nd Avenue to LaGrave Street, incorporating improvements to village storm sewer, water main, and sanitary sew, as well as incorporating desired elements from the village’s master plan, such as streetscaping, non-motorized and pedestrian safety improvements. Construction includes shoulder widening, intersection and drainage improvements, box culvert replacement at the Lawton Drain, and planting deciduous and evergreen trees.
During repaving work, there will be single-lane closures with traffic regulators. There will be total closures with posted detours during the rebuilding phase of construction.
Construction is planned in 2023-24, and tree planting is planned in spring 2025.
“The village was excited to see so many residents stop by to ask questions and review the plans. Our goal is to keep the community informed about the continued planning and project schedule. We know it will be a strain on the community during the construction, but in the end, it will be well worth it, said Lawton Village Manager Lisa Imus.”
