MSP Fire Marshal investigates fatal Paw Paw Twp. structure fire

PAW PAW TWP. – Van Buren County Sheriff Daniel Abbott reported that on Jan. 8, at approximately 7:30 p.m., Van Buren County Sheriff’s deputies, along with the Paw Paw Fire Department, were dispatched to an active structure fire in the 38000 block of 64th Avenue, Paw Paw Township. 
While working to suppress the fire, a single victim was located deceased within the residence. The victim is believed to be the sole resident of the home. The name of the victim has been withheld, pending positive identification.  
This incident and the cause of the fire remain under investigation in conjunction with the Michigan State Police Fire Marshal.
Assisting agencies included Michigan State Police, Van Buren Emergency Medical Services, Van Buren EMS, Paw Paw Fire Department, and Lawton Fire Department. Paw Paw Fire Chief Kyle Richardson said 30 members of the Paw Paw Fire Department responded to the scene at approximately 7:35 p.m., and remained at the scene until approximately 11:30 p.m.
