ST. JOSEPH COUNTY — A number of chip seal projects in St. Joseph and Cass counties begin today, and could affect commutes for the summer.
In St. Joseph County, Business Route U.S. 131 from the north intersection with U.S. 131 to Spring Street in Constantine will receive chip seal treatment, as well as M-103 from the Michigan/Indiana state line to Cecelia Street in Mottville. M-216 from M-40 to U.S. 131 in Cass and St. Joseph County will also be getting chip seal done.
In Cass County, M-40 from Bradt Road to south of East Elm Street in Marcellus will be affected by the work.
Each project is expected to have single-lane closures with traffic regulators throughout the project timeframe, with the work expecting to improve the ride quality and lifespan of the pavement. Projects are expected to wrap up by Aug. 29.
The overall project, which includes M-60 from East Main Street in Burlington to 24-1/2 Mile Road in Homer in Calhoun County, is a $4.3 million investment from the Michigan Department of Transportation.
