Nearly 1,700 MEC Customers still without power from Sunday night’s storm

Midwest Energy & Communications (MEC) reports that about 1,672 customers are still out of power late Monday afternoon, June 17, following Sunday night’s storm in southwest Michigan. The largest outages are currently in the townships of Porter (Van Buren County), Flowerfield, Fabius, Bloomingdale, Waverly, and Milton.
Crews discovered 18 broken poles as of Monday and began working through the night. “We are still encountering lots of trees and fallen power lines,” said a press release from MEC. Photos of restoration efforts are available on MEC’s Facebook page.
The press release urged residents to “please stay 50 feet away from any downed power lines as they may be live with electricity. Also, be aware of power lines on your property before you begin cleanup. For your safety and that of repair crews, please respect utility road closures.”
