Obituary: Adam Hughes

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Adam Hughes, age 35, on January 27, 2025. Adam was a beloved spouse, a devoted parent, son, friend and all-around-one-of-a-kind human. His untimely departure leaves a void that will never be filled but a legacy that will never be forgotten. He passed away surrounded by loved ones and in the comfort of his own home. Adam lived a life filled with love, laughter, and unapologetic sarcasm that always kept those around him on his toes.

Adam was a proud and active member of the Boy Scouts community, always ready to lend a guiding hand and share the joy of the great outdoors and life skills. Adam really had a passion for Boy Scouts since he was a kid, and later on he worked hard to earn his Eagle Scout that he was very proud of. He had even volunteered to be a mentor for fellow scouts, working at Gerber Scout Reservation in Twin Lake, Michigan. When his kids were of age, he became a Den Leader to pass his legacy on to his kids and the kids of the community.

Adam grew up with his grandfather Robert’s legacy of Hiscock’s Towing in Allegan. This inspired him to tinker under the hood, bringing life back to cars needing repair, a skill he took immense pride in sharing with his kids, friends, and family. A master of wrenches and wit, Adam spent many years working as a diesel semi mechanic at JX Peterbilt in Grand Rapids, getting big rigs back on the road while sharing a few wisecracks along the way. His hands were just as skilled at building a better life for his family.

When not fixing engines, Adam embraced his love for creativity and strategy through hours of video games, Heroclix battles, classic cars, and shooting firearms. His infectious enthusiasm and playful spirit created countless memories with his loved ones.

Above all, Adam was a dedicated spouse to LaVon and an extraordinary parent to Rylee and Wyatt. His unwavering love, endless patience, and boundless joy made him the cornerstone of his family. Whether it was a camping adventure, a late-night gaming session, or a simple moment together at home, Adam treasured every second with those he loved most. His passion for life, humor, and loyalty will be dearly missed by all who knew him. A sharp mind and even sharper humor made him everyone’s favorite companion in both serious moments and casual fire nights with family and friends. On most of the fire nights we were surrounded by people he met through the Allegan High School Marching band, and coworkers.

Adam is survived by his loving wife LaVon Hughes, his cherished children Rylee and Wyatt Hughes, his parents Georgia Hiscock and Randy Hughes, sister Amy (Husband Brent) Otte and their children Carlyn, Cheyenne, Cambria Otte, and many Aunts, Uncles and Cousins. Adam is preceded in death by his grandparents Steven and Connie Hughes, and Robert and Arline Hiscock.

A celebration of Adam’s life will be held on February 8th starting at 3pm at Christ Community Church 3370 113th Ave, Allegan, MI 49010. In true Adam’s fashion, come as you are — cowboy boots, Scout gear, or game shirts welcome. Share your best memories and perhaps a sarcastic remark in his honor.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks for donations to Christ Community Church, Wings of Hope Hospice, and/or the Allegan Troop 91 Boy Scouts.

While our hearts ache at this loss, we are grateful for every laugh, lesson, and unforgettable moment shared with Adam. May his witty spirit and tireless love always be remembered.
