Billy Simpson of Otsego, passed away, January 11, 2022 at age 86. Born October 24, 1935 in
Kalkaska, the son of George and Thelma (White) Simpson, Billy moved to Otsego in 1943. He
proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1953-1956 in Germany. Billy worked at
Allegan County Road Commission, American Aggregates and Winchester Steel over the years.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing and watching his children and grandchildren play football. Billy was
a life member of the Otsego VFW Post #3030 and served as Chaplain for 15 years. He was
very passionate about this position and had great respect for his fellow veterans. Before covid
Billy spent his time at local nursing homes keeping fellow veterans company. He enjoyed
meeting his retired buddies at local restaurants for coffee every morning when possible. On
September 15, 1956 he married Peggy Town. Together they had 6 children and shared 65
wonderful years. Surviving are his wife; children, Deb (Larry) Pillars, Tammy Syers, Greg
Simpson, Margie Simpson and Chuck (Amy) Simpson; grandchildren, Angie (Pat), Larry Jr.,
Tom, Bill (Jo Beth), Vanessa, Kayla, Tomasina, Savanna, Alyssa and Gabriel and 11 great-
grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Tommy Simpson and grandson,
Justin Syers. According to his wishes cremation has taken place. A memorial service with
military honors will be held at a later time. Contributions in memory of Bill may be made to VFW
