Brenda Lynne Samson, age 76 of Mendon, passed away unexpectedly at her home on April 29, 2024. She was born in Three Rivers on September 25, 1947 the daughter of Shirley “Bill” and Veryl (VanNess) Batten. Brenda attended Mendon High School and was part of the 1965 graduating class. On December 17, 1966 she would marry Doug Samson at the Mendon United Methodist Church, a church she remained heavily involved with her entire life. For many years, Brenda was an educational assistant at Mendon Schools. She loved acting out comedy sketches, singing in the choir, and performing complex dance routines in the Mendon Kiwanis Showboat since 1975 as part of the “Showboat Dancers”. Brenda traveled around with “The Girls”, singing karaoke, performing in the Riverfest Lip Sync, and having a wonderful time with her friends. She was a member of the Red Hat Society and was often seen with a bandana in her hair. She loved her little town of Mendon and was proud of her roots. Brenda was a Mendon Hornet enthusiast, founding the Doug Samson Baseball Scholarship and was a member of the Foundation Committee. She attended as many games as possible to watch her grandchildren play and was always parked on the hill during football games. She enjoyed tinkering in her yard, tending to her flowers and watching the hummingbirds. Brenda always went above and beyond for her family, whom she loved very much.
Brenda is survived by her two children; Glen (Patty) Samson and Renee (Sean Sherburn) Samson; six grandchildren; Lauren Samson, Austin Samson, Nicole Parsons, Paizlee Parsons, Braxton Samson, and Jadyn Samson; three siblings; Terry “Dutch” (Jeanne) Batten, Sue (Lee) Griffith, and Shannon (Steven) Stewart; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends. Brenda was preceded in death by her parents Bill and Veryl and her loving husband of 35 years, Doug Samson.
Visitation for Brenda will take place at the Eickhoff Funeral Home (311 West Main Street, Mendon, MI 49072) on Monday, May 6, 2024 from 3pm until 6pm. A funeral service will be held at the Mendon United Methodist Church (320 West Main Street, Mendon, MI 49072) on Tuesday, May 7, 2024 at 11am with Pastor Carl Litchfield officiating.
