Obituary: Dwight “Ike” Carpenter

CARPENTER, DWIGHT “IKE” RICHARD, age 69, of Mt. Pleasant passed away, Tuesday, March 8, 2022, at his home.
A Memorial Service for Dwight will be held at Clark Family Funeral Chapel on Saturday, March 12, 2022, at 11 a.m. with Benjamen Evers officiating. A Luncheon will immediately follow in the Reflections Reception Center. The family will receive friends the day of the service from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Foundation. Envelopes will be available at the funeral chapel.
Dwight was born on December 4, 1952, in Indianapolis, IN, son of Gerald and June (Green) Carpenter. Dwight proudly served his country in the United States Marines. He married Martha Cline on June 26, 1980, in Shepherd. After leaving the military, Dwight received his BS/BA and MBA from Central Michigan University. He then attended Cooley Law School and graduated May 13, 1989, with his Juris Doctorate. Dwight owned and operated his own law office, focusing on criminal law. He prided himself in helping his community and those in need. He loved being active in his children’s sports, golfing, hunting, and fishing. His family was his world.
Dwight is survived by his wife, Martha; children, Kelley Carpenter of Scotts, MI, and Ashley Carpenter of Mt. Pleasant; grandchildren, Cohen James Carpenter and Jaxson Brady Carpenter; siblings, Doris Gentz of Clinton Township, James Lanman of New Baltimore, and Evelyn Lowe of Chesterfield Township, MI; step-father, John Lanman of Chesterfield Township; and many nieces and nephews.
Dwight was preceded in death by his parents; in-laws, James and Janet Cline; siblings, Judy Smith, Betty Kostrach, Marjorie Bethum, and Jake Carpenter; 2 nieces and 1 nephew.
