Obituary: Erin Lynn (Goffnett) Timmons

Erin Lynn (Goffnett) Timmons
1957 was a good time to be born. It was a period of special cars, awesome music and a very special person.
Erin’s parents were Elton and Evelyn Goffnett and her siblings were Eric, Ethel, and Erlene. Erin was born in Mt Pleasant and lived her whole life there. She graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School in 1975 and then Central Michigan University with a degree in Recreation and Parks Administration.
Erin met Kevin Timmons in 1979, and they were married on July 19, 1980, with Erin also being the vocalist singing the “Rose” during the service. Her career as a school bus driver spanned over 30 years before retiring and getting a master’s degree in counseling in 2012. Counseling was her true passion, and she knew this was where she was meant to be.
In 2021 she retired “temporarily” when she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer, calling it another new beginning.
Erin deeply loved her family, brother and sisters, brother in laws, sister-in-law, nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews, numerous cousins and friends through music, school, career and church.
Music was always first on her list of things that she loved to do. It included leading singing at church, playing guitar, dulcimer, hammer dulcimer, ukulele, and clarinet. She also made a CD with their group “Dew Thyme” and she sang vocals on another one.
Erin loved gardening with her building many gardens throughout her yard and constantly going to nurseries, with her friend Ella, getting new flowers, new ideas and expanding her knowledge.
Other hobbies include; building, wood working, masonry, stain glass, basket making, and anything involving crafting, painting and being creative.
Erin loved the “Bin” at Surrey Lake and all the family memories made there.
She met cancer with an extremely optimistic attitude, saying, “I now have the opportunity to help as many people as I can.” The list was long, including; doctors, nurses, and support staff. She made many plaques with her brother Eric on his C & C machine. Other times she took them cookies, caramel corn or even encouragement.
Erin also had a special place for all gods creatures, great and small. Including her horses, cats, racoons and baby skunks.
She was funny and witty, she was compassionate and loved others deeply. Erin was hard working and loyal and had a passion for so many things. She knew her role in this life and she carried it out tirelessly. She was secure about herself but full of humility at the same time. We will all remember that beautiful smile.
Erin and Kevin spent the last three years dating again, like never before and finding the true meaning of a marriage centered on God.
Well, done thy good and faithful servant. Enter into thy rest.
Family left to celebrate her life this summer at the “Barn” near Blanchard, MI., are her husband, of 44 years, Kevin Timmons; brother, Eric (Adrienne) Goffnett of Mt. Pleasant; sister, Ethel (Terry) Larsen of Blanchard; and brother-in-law, Ron Havice of Oregon.
