Florence Guild, 100
Florence “Dolly” Dunlap Guild died peacefully on Jan. 7, 2022 at 100 years, 10 months old.
She was born on March 20, 1921 in Edmonton, Alberta, to Ralph Archibald Dunlap and Isabel McCully MacDonald Dunlap. Dolly enjoyed a childhood of ice-skating, ballet, and family fun with her brothers Henry and Archie.
Edmonton is where she met and married her handsome army soldier, William Lyman Guild of Wayne, Ill., in 1945. They shared 48 years together in Wheaton, Ill., and free time in Saugatuck.
Supporting Bill in his career as a lawyer and judge, Dolly was also a volunteer for the local hospital and active in her church. In their later years, Bill and Dolly enjoyed many trips abroad, time with their “Beach Bum” friends in Saugatuck, and their kids and grandkids.
She is survived by her children, Susan Hostetler Murphy, William Lyman Guild III (Ann), Betsy Kubota and Peggy Hopf, as well as eight grandchildren, Kevin (Lisa), Shannon, Alish (Keith), Kailey, Samantha, Bret, Jake and Hannah, and four great-grandchildren.
A gracious lady of quiet dignity, she loved her family, good books, needlecrafts, cookies and a good glass of Chardonnay. To a life well-lived!
Private services will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Saugatuck Dunes Coastal Alliance at saugatuckdunescoastalalliance.com or the Alzheimers Association, alz.org .
