Obituary: Frances Myers

Frances Myers, 78

Frances Inez Myers, nee Voris, known for her kindness and generosity, passed on Jan, 17, 2022. She considered herself as a citizen of Saugatuck and spent as much time as she could in the family’s second home.

Three generations of Knight-Voris family members have maintained homes in Saugatuck for nearly 100 years. The first cottage was built in 1924 by her maternal grandparents. Frances, the daughter of Frank and Frances (Knight) Voris, was born in Aurora, Ill., on May 12, 1943, the middle child of three.

She was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her brothers, Frank (Charlotte) Voris of Sugar Grove, Ill., Ralph (Linda) Voris of Sugar Grove, Ill., her husband William of Lincolnshire, Ill., her step-son Michael (Brittan Harris), grandson Flynn, and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and cousins whom she loved dearly.

She is also survived by in-laws Dave (Anne), John, and Jack (Donna) Myers and their children and grandchildren who were her second family.

She attended Aurora schools, University of Illinois and University of Minnesota, earning a master’s degree.

She taught in schools in Michigan, Iowa and Illinois. She was a reading consultant for Scott Foresman, a gifted education coordinator and elementary school principal. She was active politically and supported many environmental/conservancy causes.

On Nov. 21, 1990, she married William Myers. She taught him to love Saugatuck, New Orleans, Sanibel Island, Fla., and Manhattan. After retirement they traveled extensively for 20 years on six continents learning about other peoples and cultures.

He introduced her to North Shore Unitarian Church of Deerfield, Ill., where she was an active member and made many close friends.

Memorials may be made to the Land Conservancy of West Michigan, naturenearby.org  

A memorial service is planned for May at North Shore Unitarian Church.
