Obituary: Harold “Gene” Marr

Harold “Gene” Marr, age 87, of Allegan, passed away Saturday, January 11th, 2025 at Ascension Borgess, Kalamazoo. Gene was born December 22nd, 1937 in Dickenson County, IA, son of the late Elmer and Pauline Marr and lived in the Allegan area for the past 45 years. Gene worked at Bronson Hospital until retiring in the mid 1980’s. Shortly before his retirement, he and his wife Barb purchased a farm in Allegan, later to be named Marr Haven Wool Farm where they shepherded sheep until 2015. Gene was not one to sit idle. He loved computers, as this was not only his vocation but also a lifelong hobby. Many people often sought out Gene for tech support and computer advice through the years. He also worked at Allegan General Hospital and for a short time, served as the night school manager at the Allegan Tech Center. Gene was also an avid hunter and in his earlier years enjoyed cross country skiing and riding motorcycles.
Surviving is his wife Barb; son Kevin (Donna) Marr of New Jersey; a sister-in-law, Diane Marr of Oregon; nephew, Jeff (Julie) Marr; niece, Kristin (Greg) Klecker along with several cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Richard Marr.
Following his wishes cremation has taken place. The family will meet friends on Wednesday, January 15th, from noon until time of memorial service at 1pm at the Corner Bible Church, Allegan, Pastor Nick Westra officiating.
