Isabelle Mary Hanse-Amundsen passed away on Thursday, April 21, 2022, at Advent Health Hospital in Ocala, Florida. She was born on October 8, 1948, in Passaic General Hospital, Passaic, New Jersey to the Rev. John Chapman Hanse and Isabelle Maxwell Turnbull Hanse, both are deceased. Isabelle was also predeceased by her younger brother, John Kevin Hanse. Isabelle is survived by her loving husband, Jeffrey Alan Amundsen and two younger sisters; Janet Ann and her husband Paul Barek Sr of Citrus Springs, Florida; Joy Lynn and her husband Scott Essenburg of Overisel, Michigan. She was blessed with many nieces and nephews. Isabelle married the love of her life, Jeffrey Alan Amundsen on January 1, 2006, just off Catalina Island, California. She cherished her stepchildren: David and Paulina Amundsen of San Fernando, the Philippines and their son and daughter-in-law Jonah and Lynette Amundsen; Robyn and Paul Whitlock of Naperville, Illinois and their sons Andrew, Bryce, and Benjamin Whitlock.
She graduated Eastside High School, Paterson, New Jersey; The William Paterson University of New Jersey in Wayne, New Jersey; and Calvin University in Grand Rapids, Michigan. She taught thirty-six years for the Allegan Public Schools in Allegan, Michigan. During that time, she developed the Young Fives Program and created a before school program for Gifted and Talented students. In 1991, she was invited to Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania to help rejuvenate their educational system after the fall of Communism, this was done through the people-to-people program. She volunteered for the Reformed Church of America, Special Services and went to Japan for a year to show Christian love in Augeo, Siatema, Japan.
In her retirement years she enjoyed traveling across the United States with her husband in their Roadtrek RV. She made friends wherever she and her husband went. One of her greatest joys was keeping in touch with her many students throughout the years. She was a member of Third Reformed Church in Holland, Michigan and currently was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Hernando, Florida.
A celebration of her life is planned for Friday, May 6, 2022 at 11 AM at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Hernando, Florida. Friends and family are invited to attend. The service will be livestreamed through YouTube.com and then go to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Hernando, Florida and then choose the day from the options.
