It is with great sadness we mourn the passing of Jacob Nicholas Edward Morrill beloved son, brother, nephew, cousin, and friend born on June 7, 1994, in Madison Heights, MI. He died in his sleep of natural causes on January 22, 2024, at his home on Harsens Island, MI after a long illness.

Jake loved flowers and watching things grow. He was funny and enjoyed fishing, being on the water, ATV riding, hunting, and spending time with his dog, Lakoda. Even as a little boy, he liked to take things apart, figure out how they worked, and fix them. He loved his friends as family and had empathy and compassion for the struggles of others. He looked beyond their imperfections and showed them kindness. He grieved deeply the loss of his dear friends: Matt Brewer, Seth Taylor, Garrett Walker, and Drew Triggs – all gone too soon. He was also preceded in death by his maternal grandparents Cecil Edward Baker, Jr. and Gail Lynn Baker-Small, step-grandfather Brian M. Small, and paternal grandfather Nicholas Edward Morrill.

Jake grew up in Kentucky where he completed his high school education and training as an auto mechanic. He was a skilled diagnostician. He worked as a mechanic in Claire, MI to be near his father, and later moved to Federal Way, WA to be with his mother. When she returned to her family home on Harsens Island in 2023, he joined her there. He worked as a mechanic at C & S Auto in New Baltimore, MI while he was able.

Jacob is survived by his mother, Tammy Lynne Sholberg; father, Daniel Edward Morrill; sister, Samantha Morrill (Tyler Trent); half-sister, LeAnne Livi (Steve, children Tyler and Alina); grandmother, Beverly Gamarra; aunts, Stacy Baker (Deborah Eastwood); uncle, John Morrill (children Tommy and Jamie); aunt, Kathy Farley (children Amanda, Jennifer, and Jessica); and many cousins and friends.

His suffering has ended, and he sleeps in peace in Jehovah’s arms. May his memory be eternal. We will miss you, Jakey. A memorial service for Jacob Nicholas Edward Morrill will be held on Saturday, February 15th at 1:00p at the Harsens Island Lions Club (230 La Croix Rd., Harsens Island, MI 48028).
