Janet Boyce McCormick, age 92, of St. Louis, Mo. and a longtime Douglas summer resident, walked the Runway to her heavenly home on Friday Jan. 5, 2024.
Jan was born in St Louis, where she attended Christ the King Elementary School, Academy of Sacred Heart-St Charles and Maryville College. During college she met the love of her life Dinks McCormick, and they were married in 1953.
Jan had a wonderful career in fashion. She started at age 34 as the tearoom model for Stix Baer and Fuller, went on to be the house model at Neiman Marcus Frontenac, and eventually started her own fashion production company working with the May Co. malls and various charities in the St Louis area.
Jan’s true passion and favorite thing to do was to spend time with her family, especially at their summer cottage in Doulgas. Her favorite hobby was gathering “chosen family.”
Jan will be lovingly remembered by her children Tara (Carl) Hogan, Timothy (Debbie) McCormick and Toni (Billy) Britz-Lefley; grandchildren Trey (Kristin), Darby (Steven Hille) and Isabel Hogan, William (Kimmy) and Timmy McCormick, PJ (Shanon) and Molly (JJ Ferrington) Britz; and step-grandchildren Caleb, Kelsey and Christian Lefley.
Also surviving are her great-grandchildren Glennon and Pallen Hogan; Graham, Parley and Warren Hille; Brady and Grayson McCormick, Peter and Auggie Britz, and Dodge Ferrington; many close cousins and “chosen” family.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, her parents Florence “GiGi” and Tony Boyce, and her son-in-law Peter C. Britz.
Jan will be remembered for being full of life, her wonderful sense of humor and way to always make the simplest things seem fun. She never met a stranger, loved people and had an incredible way of making people feel welcome and included. Her style will live on in those she influenced with her fashion tips.
A private family celebration was held in January.
