Joan M. Northrup, 97, of Allegan, peacefully passed away July 26, 2024, at American House in Holland.
Joan was born to Macon and Nelle Morris in St. Louis, MO. After high school, she furthered her education at Mac Murray College in Jacksonville, IL. After receiving her bachelor degree in elementary education, Joan spent the next 40 years in the Allegan and Fennville school districts.
Joan married William E. Northrup on June 22, 1950 and settled in Allegan. During their time in Allegan, Bill and Joan had a wide circle of friends who loved to have parties and dinners at each other’s homes, take vacations together, and spent many summers boating and relaxing in Saugatuck, MI. They were devoted members of the Church of Good Shephard, antiquing and shopping were their primary hobbies, and upon retirement spent several years vacationing in Florida during winter months.
She is survived by her son Jeff (Julie) Northrup of Holland, MI, her grandson Paul Northrup of Grand Rapids, MI, and granddaughter Leah Northrup of Holland, MI.
Joan was a loving mother and grandmother who was always there for her family. After the death of her husband, she relocated to Holland to be closer to her family. She was a resident of Appledorn Independent Community before transitioning to American House Assisted Living.
A special thank you to close friends and fellow antiquers Bill McGlone and Ken Kutzel who were always there for her. To the staff at Appledorn and American House, and the Gentiva Hospice staff thank you so much for your support and caring compassion.
No more memorial service is planned, per Joan’s wishes.
