Obituary-John Dee Danes “Captain John”

John Dee Danes “Captain John” of Allegan, passed away on Wednesday, March 16, 2022, surrounded by family at home. John was born on February 3, 1944 in Big Rapids, MI. The son of the late Cecil ‘Jack’ Danes and Frances Lillian (Cass) Danes Bishop. He was a member of the Moose Lodge, Eagles, and in the Masonic Lodge for over 50 years. He married Margaret (Follingstad) Danes on February 3, 1968 and lived in Allegan for most of his life. He loved his family and doing projects with his grandkids. He enjoyed playing cards, bowling, golfing, gardening, hunting and especially fishing. He formerly worked for Rockwell and Lifesavers. He was a charter boat captain on his boat Cannonballer. He was also very active in the Mason’s activities. He was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Margaret Danes of Allegan; father, Cecil ‘Jack’ Danes of Pullman; mother, Frances (Cass) Danes Bishop of Frostproof, FL; brothers, Ace Danes of Auburn, KY; and Bill Martin of Cadillac; and sisters, Betty Martin, Cherie LaPalm of Kalamazoo, and DeLorma Branch of Kalamazoo. Surviving are his sisters, Linda Riddel of Mounthome, AR, Terrie Eberhard of Muldrow, OK; brother, Del (Brenda) Danes of Frostproof, FL; longtime faithful friend and companion, Sherry MacKenzie of Allegan; six children, Tammy (Melvin) Good of Reno, NV, Julie Thomson of Gobles, Jacqueline Emmons of Allegan, Jennifer ( Danny) Whaley of Cadillac, Jack (Sarah) Danes of Bloomingdale, and John Danes Jr of Allegan; 16 grandchildren; and 6 great grandchildren. A memorial service/fish fry will be held in his honor at a later date. Honoring John’s wishes, cremation has taken place.
