Joyce Arlene Miles (Pittner), a beacon of love and friendship, passed away peacefully on October 6, 2024, in Allegan, Michigan, at the age of 90. Born on June 18, 1934, in Plainwell, MI, Joyce lived a life marked by devotion to her family, her faith, and her community.
Joyce was the cherished matriarch of her family, a role she embraced with every ounce of her being. She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Sylvarius and Thelma Pittner; her devoted husband of 60 years, Leroy Miles; her dear sister, Jane Pittner; and her respected brother-in-law, Al Wason. Her legacy of love continues through her surviving family members: her sister, Mary Wason; her children, Anne Miles, Steven (Kathleen) Miles, and John (Leslie) Miles; her adored grandchildren, Jessica, Martin, Meghan, and Harlan; and her treasured great-grandchildren, Lennon and Ruth.
Joyce’s life was a testament to her unwavering commitment to her family and her faith. As a dedicated homemaker, she created a warm and welcoming home where laughter and love were always in abundance. Her faith was a cornerstone of her existence, and she served as a member of Sacred Heart, where she also contributed her time and talents as a Director of Religious Education (DRE) for 15 years. Joyce’s dedication to service extended to her involvement with the Altar Society and her 27 years of volunteer work at Allegan Medical Center, where she touched the lives of many with her kindness and compassion.
Those who knew Joyce will fondly remember her for her love of cooking, a passion she often shared with her family and friends. Her kitchen was a place of gathering, where the aroma of delicious meals and the warmth of her presence were always present. Joyce’s love for adventure took her on many vacations, camping trips, and explorations of the Upper Peninsula, creating memories that will be cherished by her loved ones forever. A lover of games, Joyce’s competitive spirit and joy for life shone through in her favorite pastimes, Yahtzee and Skipbo, which she played with enthusiasm and a twinkle in her eye. Her love for her family was unparalleled, and she took immense pride in her great-grandchildren, who brought her immeasurable joy.
Joyce’s friends and family will remember her for her loving nature and friendly demeanor. She had a remarkable ability to make everyone feel welcome and valued, a gift that made her a beloved figure in her community. Her love for simple pleasures, like enjoying donuts and coffee, was a reminder of the joy that can be found in everyday moments.
Joyce Arlene Miles lived a life full of love, service, and joy. Her memory will be held in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her, and her spirit will continue to inspire kindness and warmth in the world she has left behind. As we say goodbye to Joyce, we celebrate a life well-lived and a legacy of love that will endure for generations to come.
Joyce’s Memorial Service will start at 11:00am in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church with an hour visitation beforehand in the Fellowship Hall next door on Thursday, October 17th, 2024. Inurnment to follow the service at the Sacred Heart Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made in Joyce’s name to Wings of Hope Hospice Allegan or Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
