June Irene (Wing) Guthrie, age 84 of Mt. Pleasant, peacefully entered Heaven into the arms of Jesus on Monday, March 7, 2022. On December 23, 1937, June was born the eldest of eight children to Leo and Ilah (Kress) Wing on their family farm in Gratiot County. She was united in marriage to Clare Guthrie in their hometown of Vestaburg, MI. on July 30, 1955; enjoying just over 66 years of marriage together until Clare’s passing exactly 100 days before June’s on November 27, 2021. June was a proud graduate of Alma High School’s Class of ’56 after attending Gratiot County’s Sumner School in her younger years. June took great pride in tending to her family and home in her working years as she supported Clare’s career with the National Guard, Dow Chemical, and their self-owned venture—Guthrie Oil. June had a passion for the outdoors and greatly enjoyed her trees, flower gardens, and beautiful overlook of the Chippewa River. She was a voracious reader, especially when it came to Zane Grey novels, and she enjoyed traveling the country with Clare, whether it was a short, local orchard trip or across the country. Her specially baked molasses cookies, cinnamon rolls, and buttermilk pancakes grew to be somewhat of local legend. However, those that knew June well, knew that her generosity, devotion, and care as a wife, mother, and grandmother was the most important part of her life. Although 100 days apart from Clare may seem short, for June it was 100 days too many.
June is survived by her five children Debbie (Ray) Tidd of Palm Desert, CA., Mike (Doreen) Guthrie of Riverdale, Linda (Jeff) Acklin of Comstock Park, Tim (Donna) Guthrie of Rosebush, and Sue (Clint) Kern of Clare and her grandchildren Megan, Kymiri, Gabriel, Brandon, Lisa, Jason, Tony, Kelly, Lindsay, Joe, Mike, James, Lilly, John, Molly, Jacob, and Abby. Other survivors include her five great-grandchildren and her siblings Steve, Fred, Walter, Janet, and Kathy. She was preceded in death by her husband Clare, her granddaughter Sarah Guthrie, her siblings Roderick “Butch” and Richard, and her son-in-law Joe D. McGuire.
A funeral service in honor of June will take place on Friday, March 11, 2022 at 11:00 A.M. at the Clare Chapel of the Stephenson-Wyman Funeral Home with Pastor Jeremiah Ketchum officiating. Friends may visit with the Guthrie family from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service at 11:00. Burial will follow services in the Cherry Grove Cemetery of Clare and a luncheon will be held at the Brown Corners Church.
