Obituary: Kathryn Pearle Mankin

Kathryn Pearle Mankin, 97, died July 10th, 2024, in Wings Home hospice of Allegan.
Kathryn was born November 25, 1926, in Mendon Illinois to Earl B and M. Grace (Hawe) McCelland. She married Bernard J. “Bud” Mankin on October 3, 1947, in Allegan. She was a 1970 Graduate of Allegan High School through the Adult Graduation program.
Mom dedicated herself to the often thankless and always underappreciated task of housewife and mother, raising 5 kids in what were often difficult financial circumstances. Through store credits, Christmas club accounts and other well-kept secrets she somehow managed to keep everyone well fed, clothed and happy. She labored tirelessly through bouts of concurrent sickness, seemingly endless teenage years and the monumental logistical problem of only one bathroom. Her fried chicken, pies and potato salad were the source of eternal happiness. To relieve stress, Mom would huddle with her dear friend Ione, herself with 5 kids, over tea and cigarettes.
Kathryn is survived by four sons Randy (Linda), Dennis (John), Steven (Jeanne), Kelly (Michael), seven grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren and her sister June who recently celebrated her 100th Birthday.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her daughter Kathy, her grandsons Tim & David and her siblings Blanch, Dorothy, Eloise, Betty, and Bill.
A memorial Service will be held on August 22, 2024, at 11:00am at the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, 101 N. Walnut St., Allegan. A Reception to immediately follow in the Parish hall. Kathryn will be interred with Bud in the Church columbarium.
The family would like to express our deep appreciation to the staff of Briarwood Assisted Living and Wings of Hope Hospice for their love and kindness. In lieu of Flowers, donations may be made to the Wings of Hope Hospice, 530 Linn St., Allegan MI 49010, or the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd
