Lena Ann Veldt passed away on September 18, 2023 in Grand Rapids after a brief illness.
Lena was born in Paw Paw Hospital on June 25, 1954 to Harm and Virgina (Schaefer) Veldt. As
a child, Lena was raised on a farm in Texas Township; she remained in Southwest Michigan
when parents and brothers purchased a farm and moved to the Upper Peninsula. During her
adult life, Lena had resided in Gobles, Lawrence, Vicksburg, and PawPaw, with her childhood
years spent in Texas Township. Lena attended Mattawan Schools for all of her grade school
years though graduation. She worked many years for Quality Farm and Fleet Stores in Portage,
in addition to working for The County Post Store in Allegan. She was much appreciated for
her knowledge of agriculture and livestock by the many customers of that store.
Lena is survived by two brothers, Calvin (Suzie) and Alvin, both of Sault Ste. Marie, along with
two nieces Jessica (Jerry) Peterson and Jenny (Andrew) Lentz. She was preceded in death by
her parents, along with her brother Melvin. Lena had a love for her beagle dogs, which she
owned many during her life. She also appreciated farm and country life and lived on a farm in
Lawrence with her parents for a few years of her adult life.
Cremation has taken place and
interment will take place at a future time in Texas Township Cemetery. Lena will be laid to rest
with parents, brother, and infant sister
