Louise Lynnea Nelson, age 80, of Gobles MI, died on Monday, May 6, 2024, at home under hospice care and in the presence of her family. Louise was born in St. Joseph, MI, on August 27, 1943, to Arthur C. Johnson and Eloise F. (Parker) Johnson. She grew up in the Breedsville and Grand Junction areas, attending the one-room Saddle Lake School for elementary, the Grand Junction School for junior high, and then Bangor High School, where she graduated in 1961. She married her husband Wayne in 1974 and they were able to celebrate their 50th Anniversary in March.
All considered Louise to be a truly kind, loving, and thoughtful person. She made friends very easily. Her passion was collecting glassware and other antique and vintage items, and she was deeply knowledgeable in that. She enjoyed traveling and visited many beautiful locations in the US and Canada through the years. She loved cats, especially Miss Kitty who provided great comfort during her declining health. She and Wayne loved watching hockey on TV, being big fans of both the Red Wings and the Blackhawks.
Louise is survived by her husband Wayne, daughter, Debra McCormick (spouse Mark Bolyen) of Allegan, son, Brian Garpow of South Haven, grandson, Justin McCormick (spouse Jame Taylor) of Sarasota FL, grandson, Jordan McCormick (spouse Brittany McCormick) of Allegan MI, great-grandson, Liam McCormick of Allegan, brother A. L. “Lonny” Johnson (companion Joann Cappetto) of Grand Junction, MI, sister, Elizabeth “Beth” Taylor (partner Ed Bowen) of Bloomingdale MI, special sister cousin, Signe Johnson of Holland MI, special nephew, Tony Johnson of South Haven, special niece, Sally Germinder (spouse Eric) of Hartford MI, special friends, Allyson Allen, Brenda Molitor and Dee Allen, and numerous members of her extended family.
She was pre-deceased by her parents; brother, Theodore Johnson (surviving spouse Donna Johnson) of Hartford; brother, Carl Johnson of Dewey AZ; and brother, Chester Johnson of Grand Junction MI.
Louise has been cremated and there is no formal funeral. A memorial celebration and luncheon will be held on Monday, June 3, 2024, from 11:30 AM to 2:00 PM, at the Bloomingdale Conservation Club, 16681 41st St., Bloomindale, MI 49026, This will be a full luncheon, a short ceremony, and good fellowship, with casual dress. Please join us.
