Obituary: Margaret Ann VanderVeen

Margaret Ann VanderVeen, age 78, passed away peacefully on October 12, 2024. Margaret was born on April 2, 1946, in Hopkins to Leon and Edna (Cooley) Arnsman, Margaret’s life was a testament to her strength, her passion for music, and her unwavering love for her family.
Margaret is survived by children, Joy (Greg) McMeekan, Lynn (Doug) Campbell, Cheryl VanderVeen, and Jim (Donita) VanderVeen, daughter-in-law, Cheryl (Champion) VanderVeen, fifteen grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, brothers, Jim (Rita) Arnsman and Richard (Carolyn) Arnsman, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Henry VanderVeen, sons, Perry, Marty, and Joel VanderVeen, adopted daughter Emmy Peraulta, several siblings, and dear friend, Henry Fitzpatrick.
Professionally, Margaret was dedicated and hardworking. She managed payroll at Upjohn for ten years before raising her children. Later in life she worked at Big Top Market before joining her daughter at Parchment Harding’s Market’s bakery, just a few years ago. Her work ethic was matched only by her commitment to her faith as a devoted member of Revive Bible Church.
Margaret’s talents extended beyond her professional life. A gifted musician and singer, she was an active member of the Michigan Fiddlers. Her creative spirit shone brightly as she decorated her home and church for every holiday and season, and her hobby of collecting treasures brought her great joy.
Above all, Margaret loved her family fiercely. Her legacy is one of unwavering faith, boundless love, and the sweet melody of a life well-lived.
Margaret’s family will receive friends on Friday, October 18, 2024, 10:00 to 11:00 AM at Revive Bible Church where her funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 AM. Burial will take place at Mountain Home Cemetery. Memorial contributions to Revive Bible Church or Centrica Care Navigators Hospice will be appreciated.
