Obituary: Marian E. Colborn

Marian E. Colborn, 84, of Cheshire Township, passed away Sunday, April 21, 2024 at Meadow Woods Nursing and Rehab Center, Bloomingdale. She was born May 21, 1939 in Alamo, the daughter of John and Ester (Maas) Kuiper, the youngest of 3. She attended Otsego Public Schools in the 1940’s and 50’s. She spent time in the South Side of Chicago wearing her Packers helmet while riding a vintage Victory motorcycle before returning home and marrying Kenneth Dale Colborn, September 27, 1969 who had 3 sons, Mark, Mike and Kent. She was an avid horse lover, served as the Bureau of Land Management Director for the State of Michigan for the adoption of wild mustangs and burrows, and later that passion returned to the open road on a Harley Davidson that she rode for many miles and sunsets for the last 30 plus years. Included in that time was a 6,000+ mile cross country road trip across the US that was featured in several news articles. Her most recent trip was 7 years ago on a solo ride to Texas which ended with a car hitting her bike and breaking her leg. She continued to ride another 400 miles until the pain bothered her too much. Marian always had to have around her trusty dog, from the days of Vanity, Patches, Amigo, Quackenbush and Sagebush to her last trusty companion, Shadow, who passed away just a few months ago. She now gets to rest easy and join her husband, Kenneth, who has been gone for 10 years, Oma and Opa, her sister and brother for a long-awaited Kuiper family lunch. God Bless, you will be missed. Surviving are her four sons: Mark (Robin Johnson) Colborn, Michael (Chris) Colborn, Kent (Karen) Colborn, Clint Colborn; nine grandchildren: Mathilde, Andy, Mason, Amy, Michael Jr, Kelly, Abby, Noah, Carter; several great-grandchildren; her lifelong friends: Frank and Marti Nock, Mike and Pat Hendricks, Frank and Nola Tooker and Bobbi Foster. She was preceded in death by her parents; granddaughter, Sarah; sister, Ruth Kuiper; brother, Ken Kuiper; brother-in-law, Gale Gauld. There will be a luncheon for family and friends at 1:00 PM Saturday, April 27, 2024 at Cheshire Township Hall. Arrangements entrusted to the Bloomingdale Chapel, D. L. Miller Funeral Home, www.dlmillerfuneralhome.com. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Gobles Middle School Track Team, Gobles Public Schools or SPCA of South West Michigan.
