Obituary: Marian Frances Gowens

Marian Frances Gowens, 59 went to meet her Lord and Savior on Monday July 22,2024.  A beloved wife, loving mother and grandmother, caring daughter and cherished sister, she will leave a large void in many lives. Born Marian Frances O’Bryant on August 10, 1964 to Celia and the late Calvin O’Bryant in Allegan, Mich. The sixth of seven children, she graduated from Allegan High School in 1983.         

          Most of her over twenty five years of employment involved caring for people. Including Allegan Medical Care Facility, Allegan General Hospital, Home Health Care and Village Market.

          Marian had a heart warming smile, and a sharp sense of humor. She also had a special talent for making a recently met person feel like a life long friend. Her unique laughter  was contagious and could put a smile on anybody’s face. If you were fortunate enough to be loved by her you knew that when she  loved she loved hard. She loved the Lord and she loved her family and her  love was a one of a kind, real love.

          Marian was preceded in death by her father Calvin O’Bryant. Surviving is her loving husband of thirty years Terry Gowens and children Dahmesheia Woodruff (C.Y.), Brutus Woodruff, and Natsha Gowens. Grandchildren Deshon Gowens, Ramona Hughley, C.J. Johnson. Also surviving, her mother Celia O’Bryant and siblings Earl (Yvette) O’Bryant, Annette Hall, Calvin Jr.(Christina) O’Bryant, Gail Essenburg, Dorine Channey, Albert (Debra) O’Bryant and many many nieces and nephews. Also canine companion Boo.

          A special thanks to the staff of Metro U of M Hospital in Wyoming,MI  for their professionalism and expertise. Also a special thank you to her fellow workers at Village Market for their support and generosity.

          A celebration of life service is at the Allegan Assembly of  God church at 1:00 o:clock with A luncheon to follow at the Trowbridge Township Hall.

  1. Praying for Marian’s family. May God lift your hearts the way Marian lifted those of all she met. Her smile. Her laugh. I might go years without seeing her, but when I did I always walked away with a smile and a warm heart. Probably some laughs, too. I can’t imagine how much you must miss her.
