Obituary: Patricia L. Thomas

Patricia L. Thomas, affectionately known as Pat, passed away peacefully on October 18, 2024, in Kalamazoo, MI, after a courageous battle with glioblastoma. Born on August 18, 1942, in Plainwell, MI, to Seamer (Scotty) Dalrymple and Helen (Cam) Randall, both deceased, Pat was a beacon of love and selflessness throughout her 82 years.
A proud graduate of Allegan High School’s class of 1961, Pat’s commitment to her community was evident from her early years. Her career spanned over three decades at Parker Hannifin’s brass division, where she not only dedicated herself to her work but also formed enduring friendships that she cherished throughout her life.
Pat’s presence was a gift to all who knew her. She was a lifelong resident of Otsego and the surrounding areas, where she was deeply rooted in her faith and community. As an active member of the United Methodist Church in Otsego, MI, her spiritual life was a cornerstone of her existence. Pat’s kindness extended beyond her human connections, as she was also an avid animal lover, sharing her home and heart with several beloved pets over the years.
Her intellectual curiosity was never satisfied, as evidenced by her love for reading and her enjoyment of working crossword and seek-a-word puzzles. Pat’s wisdom and love of learning were traits that she passed on to her family and all who were fortunate enough to engage in a conversation with her.
Pat’s involvement with the ladies auxiliary at VFW post 3030 in Otsego, MI, and her membership in the Red Hats Society were testaments to her zest for life and her commitment to service. She found joy in the company of her fellow members and contributed to the vibrancy of each organization.
Family was the focal point of Pat’s life. She was the beloved wife of the late Robert (Bob, Gabby, Ole Dad) Thomas, and a devoted mother to her daughters, Kimberly (Boyd Williams) English, Anita (Brian) Gildea, and Natalie (Paul) Thomas-Smith. Her role as a grandmother and great-grandmother was one she held with great pride and immense love. Her grandchildren, Brandon Thomas, Kelsey Stone, Samantha Haddix, and Jalen Johnson, and her great-grandchildren, Kaden Thomas, Rylin Thomas, Avacynn Cook, Weston Haddix, Parker Haddix, and Josie Haddix, were the joys of her life.
Pat was also a caring sister, leaving behind her brother Merle (Trevah) Dalrymple, and was predeceased by her brothers George (Lois) Dalrymple and Gordon (Karen) Dalrymple. She was a cherished aunt and cousin to several nieces, nephews, and cousins, each of whom felt her love and generosity.
Those who knew Pat would describe her as loving, selfless, and wise. Her guidance and warmth were the foundations upon which many relied, and her legacy is one of kindness, resilience, and the power of community. Pat’s love for her family and her unwavering spirit will continue to inspire and live on in the hearts of those she touched.
Patricia L. Thomas’s life was a testament to the beauty of a life well-lived and the impact one person can have on so many. Her memory will be treasured and her presence deeply missed. She has left an indelible mark on the world, and her spirit will forever be a guiding light for her family and friends.

  1. I was Pat’s hairdresser for many years in Otsego. She was a kind hearted, giving lady. She would make cute little jokes & we would both laugh. I will remember her with great fondness.
