Paul Siskaninetz, 91, of Lawton, passed away Monday, February 5, 2024 at Rose Arbor in Kalamazoo.
Paul was born March 14, 1932 in Decatur, MI to John and Mary (Forzan) Siskaninetz. Paul attended a two-room school house in East Decatur and transferred to high school where he graduated in 1950. After graduating, he worked at a paper company in Kalamazoo. In 1952, Paul joined the US Navy, serving in the Pacific during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in 1956. Paul then joined Hydreco as a machinist for 33 years until his retirement.
In 1955, Paul married Betty Zwalua. They resided in Portage where they raised their two daughters, Sandy and Sherri. Paul enjoyed hunting, going to deer camp up north; gardening, and feeding the birds and squirrels in the yard. He took up golf for fun after retiring. Paul was a life member of VFW post 6248 in Decatur.
Paul is survived by his wife of 65 years, Betty Siskaninetz; his daughter, Sherri Kik of Kalamazoo; his grandson, Jeffrey DeMann of Lawton; his granddaughter, Nicole DeMann of Gilbert, AZ; his great grandchildren, Zoey, Molleigh, Darby and Cru; and a special nephew, Nick (Christie) Siskaninetz.
He is preceded in death by his daughter, Sandra DeMann; his son-in-law, Mark Kik; eight sisters, Mary, Anne, Helen, Julia, Katy, Sophie, Martha and Pauline; five brothers, Bill, Frank, John, Nick, and George; a special young man, Anske Zwalua, his foreign exchange student from the Netherlands; and his parents.
A graveside service with military honors will be held at 12pm, Saturday, June 1, 2024 at Lakeside Cemetery, Decatur. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the VFW Post 6248 Roof Fund, 560 N. Phelps St., Decatur, MI 49045.
